In Between
2016 – Ongoing
In Between is an evolving body of work in which Mai Al Shazly reimagines spatial engagement as a response to isolation and confinement. Through stop-motion videos and installations, the project explores playful, improvised actions that resist the rigidity of institutional and everyday environments.
In her first stop-motion video, Al Shazly stages a choreographed interaction between her body and the objects of a sterile administrative office—photocopiers, plants, chairs—transforming the space into a site of absurdity and movement. These performative gestures draw on childhood memories, blending physical humor with subtle acts of resistance.
The project continues to evolve as a series of experiments in movement, materiality, and spatial tension—where restriction becomes an invitation for creative reconfiguration.
